I did not notice that during September Du (my ISP) announced the availability of more broadband packages. Every since I have been in Dubai I have only had access to a 2meg service and seeing options for 4, 8 and 12meg offerings had me jumping for joy. Here is the complete list of offering:
Any internet addict will tell you that you can never have enough bandwidth or a fat enough pipe! Without further ado I was down at the nearest Du shop requesting the full 12meg upgrade and I was even more amazed then in four short hours the service was up and running and without a hitch.
While I am delighted with the service the price (just over $200 a month) makes my eyes water just a little. I am however glad to be part of the faster broadband age now.

So what speed are you getting now?

Depends more on the end server – but I have seen up to 1200k sustained. Average is around 600-900k a second.

Holy cow… 40 USD for a 256 kbps? It’s bloody painful.. On average over Europe for 40 USD you can get from 8 to 40 Mbps…

Would you feel better about that price if I told you that a blogger acquaintance in Fiji is paying 3,000dir (US$850) per month for a 2mb pipe?
He needs it for his web development and hosting business.
