Yesterday the world’s largest to date firework display marked the opening of the Atlantis Hotel on the Palm. Kylie performed to some 2000 celebrities followed by a display of pyrotechnics that was simply amazing. The cost for the whole show? An amazing $30m. Not bad in times of global recession.
I was having a few people around at my place for a drink so at midnight we thought we might as well go to the beach and have a look. After a short walk we found the beach to thronging with people. The more prepared had brought deck chairs and camera tripods. I had just hastily grabbed my camera and wished I had picked my tripod up as well. After about a 20 minute wait the whole palm jumeriah sprang to life in a dazzlingly display. Bearing in mind we were watching about four kilometres it was still spectacular. The finale saw the best for last and I was glad to get a decent picture of it from the 60 or so blurry ones I had:
Afterwards we headed back to my place for a more drinks and a little more SingStar. Here Catherine and Duncan are doing their best impression of Kylie and Robbie Williams:

Yep, this made the news all the way in Los Angeles, of course the hightlight were the ‘stars’ who showed up. Fireworks were outstanding!
