I have just seen a tweet from a site called Visiting Dubai with their Top 10 things to do in Dubai. Here it is:
10. Visit the Dubai spice souk
9. Buy art at a gallery in the Bastakia quarter
8. Ride a camel in the desert
7. Visit the Dubai Museum
6. Ride a dhow across Dubai Creek
5. Shop at the Dubai gold souk
4. Eat dinner at The Noble House
3. Ski at the Mall of the Emirates
2. Dune buggy in the desert
1. Have a drink at Skyview Bar in the Burj al Arab
I think that this is good list and covers all the the things that Dubai is well known for. I thought I might write the Top 10 things to do that have been built/added since I have been here:
10. Ride the Dubai Metro
9. Buy art at the Covent Garden Market on JBR Walk
8. Ride Halfpipe Canyon at Sega Republic
7. Visit the Lost Chambers at the Atlantis
6. See Jumana Secret of the Desert
5. Shop at the eclectic Souk Al Baha
4. Eat dinner at Zuma
3. Visit the Dubai Fountain
2. Ride the Leap of Faith at Aquaventure
1. Visit the viewing platform on the 134th Floor of the Burj Dubai (well from Dec 2nd 2009)
Which list wins? Neither – they are all great things to do and a combination between the two would give an amazing time in Dubai. I want to write a similar list in a year or so but encompassing Abu Dhabi – things like the Guggenheim museum, Yas Island Race Track, the Ferrari Theme park and even a tour of the QE2 will be possibilities. Who said anything about a slowdown?

Hi,
Walking on Burdubai creek and visiting Historical Museum will give a much pleasure. Spending some moments in Historical village looking back to the History can be unforgettable!! The boats riding on the Creek waters are really made of beauty and charm.. hmm — Sadar

Hi Parakkav – I couldn’t agree with you more – riding the creek in a boat and visiting the historical villages are perfect days out and ones which I enjoy myself.

Hi Mr. Aaron,
Myself forget everything while sitting in the Historical village in Burdubai watching the Buffalo near an old styled well. Sometimes i can see that village man irrigating his small farm land there. Sometimes some kind of small birds came to me and wished to play with me. hmmm … As if I’m going back to my place: parakkav (which was so in years back)…

Love the museum in Dubai. It is small but very well presented and will give tourists a history of Dubai.
Spend much more time in Abu Dhabi now. AD is less hectic than Dubai and good to see more attractions opening up. I also enjoy less high rise.
The Grand Prix this weekend will be exciting but very expensive. However it is a sell out which is good for the economy.

Great list. Will be stopping in Dubai en-route to South Africa. Any recommendations for airport hotels nearby. Anything new and interesting?

@Denise – There are a number of hotels super close to the airport – but if you want to see something good. Try one of the hotels located in “Downtown” and check out the Dubai fountain. Well worth a visit.

Hi, bloghopping here.
A good list above. My family had booked for the Burj Khalifa view mid-February but that’s when they temporarily closed it for some maintenance works. They just reopened, and hopefully we could ride that elevator up soon =)
A happy weekend!

Hey! I have an urgent question for you
Do things close down in Dubai because of low season? Or is December still very popular for tourists?
Thanks, and great blog!

Great post. I would include a Friday brunch since this is what everyone seems to do in a friday (when there’s not a global crisis). A brunch then poses a new set of problems, there’s so many choices…what’s the best brunch?

Hi – I ended up including Brunches in the article I wrote for Forbes:
http://www.forbes.com/2010/08/14/dubai-tourism-sightseeing-activities-lifestyle-travel-gulf_2.html
The text being:
Friday Brunch
Weekends in Dubai start on Thursday nights, and it has almost become a tradition for restaurants to put on an all-you-can-eat-and-drink brunch at Friday lunchtime. The various establishments battle for which can put on display the most elaborate array of dishes and beverages, and the choices can at times bewilder you. The very top-end buffets put others I have been to in Las Vegas or Asia to shame, but you can get by spending far less and still walk away satiated. Insider tip: The brunch at the Al Qasr Hotel or Bubblicious at the Westin Hotel score highest for high-falutin dining, with more relaxed affairs at the either the Shangri La or Spectrum on One at the Fairmont Hotel. All of these get popular, so book early.
